It’s a huge misconception that joining the force of HVAC technicians is a risky proposition right now. The reality is that in HVAC the old adage that, “they don’t make them like they used to” is pretty close to the truth.
Gone are the days when an air conditioning system was put in place and worked full-steam ahead for the next 30 years. With environmental regulations and workplace platforms changing faster than ever before, HVAC delivery systems are forced to be upgraded and reconfigured much more consistently than they used to be.
That said, not only is the HVAC field prosperous right now, (above the average growth of all other occupations), but, according to bls.gov, it has a growth projection of 34% for this decade.
The numbers are pretty strong indicating that HVAC technicians are in high demand in today’s rapidly changing world, with fewer technicians to go around and a 22% projected increase in demand. It all adds up to being too much work and not enough HVAC technicians.
What that means, of course, is that for the technicians who are out there plying their trade every day, the workload can get a little bit overwhelming at times.
