Ergonomic tool evolution

As the nation’s leading manufacturer of “tools of the trade” for the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry, Malco has been changing the game by engineering unique ergonomic tools for years. The intent behind this is to make any sheet metal job safer and easier to complete than ever before.

What is Ergonomics?

In a nutshell, ergonomics is the science of designing and producing tools and other work-related implements that improve a worker’s efficiency, while reducing discomfort, fatigue, and risk of injury. We recognize the importance of solid ergonomics when developing all of our specialty products.

Evolving Our HVAC Tools

Throughout the decades, we’ve released user-friendly hand tools such as the Andy Aluminum Handled Snips and Max2000® Aviation Snips with sleek ergonomic handles. Although these tools offered quick operation and sheet metal cutting on the job, we knew that there was an opportunity to further streamline the process.

The Original TurboShear®

Our team went to work figuring out how to simplify the task of cutting a square hole in sheet metal duct without having to use a handheld snip. Thus, in 2003, we released the original TurboShear® drill attachment (TS1). Capable of making straight, curved, or square cuts into heavy 20-gauge metal, this time-saving power shear revolutionized the HVAC market. Although this product launch was a huge success, we wanted to continue developing the best of the best HVAC products for our users.

The TurboShear® Heavy Duty

One of our most popular tools that we’ve designed to date is our TurboShear® Heavy Duty Sheet Metal Cutting Tool Attachment (TSHD). Released a couple of years after the TS1, the TSHD was designed with a patented compact drill clamp to free up a hand, so that material could be held instead of remaining stationary. With this tool, it’s easier than ever to make fast, smooth cuts in even thicker sheet metals (up to 18-gauge). The shear’s wide-opening, hardened carbon steel jaws can operate at high or low speeds for the control you need, when you need it.

This ergonomic tool saves your hands from fatigue by eliminating the repetitive hand movements associated with using manual sheet metal cutting snips. The clamp collar allows the shear head to be rotated 360° and set in any position for optimum tool clearance when navigating profiles or to facilitate easy material flow.

The TSHD is the ultimate long-lasting power shear that promotes good ergonomics for all users. Invest in this specially designed ergonomic tool and experience the difference. Your body will surely thank you!
